The Demon Hunter Ch. 4
The Demon Hunter Chapter 4 Christine was tired of things always changing on her. She craved for something comforting and familiar. She needed something to get her mind off her seemingly endless journey of loss. She opened the French doors to the small balcony of her bedroom. As she stepped out, she could feel the afternoon breeze dance around her. She closed her eyes and took a deep sigh. The wind smelled of the pine trees growing all around Macbeth's property. The feeling of the wind blowing around her hair and her clothes was refreshing, but it just wasn't enough. Christine remembered that on her way to the library earlier that day, she had spotted a grand piano in the parlor. She hadn't played the piano in years, but the urge to play was irresistible. As she made her way down the stairs, she passed Mrs. O'Connell, who gave her a wide-eyed look of surprise. "Can- can I get you anything, my-my dear?" The woman looked as though she had seen a ghost. The winds had followed Christine

The Demon Hunter Ch. 3
The Demon Hunter Chapter Three Things were not going as Christine had hoped they would. Though it was not entirely unexpected, Macbeth's request still hurt her. "...You can tell me your name." A perfectly reasonable request, but it still hurt her to hear it. How she wished she could go back home to Manhattan. How she wished Macbeth still remembered her and loved her. It was painful enough living with his ignorance of her while in 1060 A.D. Scotland, but now he was widowed and childless. The memory of Luach's death hit her very suddenly. He had once told her he loved her. Oh why didn't I take his offer? Christine moaned inwardly. "M'lady?" Macbeth asked with concern. Christine realized she had stood there silent and dumb for several moments still hadn't answered his question. She shook herself, looked up at him, but then looked away. "I'm sorry. I wasn't expecting to be caught off guard... " she cleared her throat. "I had hoped you would remember me." She admitted. "It's been

A Stranger in Scotland Chapter 1 The flash of flame burned hot and fast around Christine’s body. She held her breath in fear that she would be burned by the flames, but a second later they dispersed. She frantically patted her body to make sure that there was no trace of fire on her. She sighed with relief when she realized that she had not been harmed. Christine had traveled by way of the Phoenix Gate before with Macbeth and Merlin to England, but this time jump had been unexpected. The Gate had fallen out of Brooklyn’s pouch when the ship had lurched violently back and forth from a meteor strom. The Gate broke in two where Demona had broken it centuries ago when she gave one half to Goliath as a token of her affection when they were still in love. The sudden break sent the Gate summoning the flames of the Phoenix and had grabbed both Brooklyn and Christine in its grasp. She looked around and found herself in a wooded area at night. It was damp and foggy, and there was a moon above

The Demon Hunter Chapter Two Christine wasn’t sure if she had fainted or if she simply had fallen asleep from exhaustion. The next morning, she woke up in bed in a strange room with ivy-printed wall paper and emerald green drapes and furniture. The light of a new day shone through the parted drapes, and stung her eyes. She pulled the blankets up to her chin and turned away from the sun. Christine just wanted to sleep. And sleep, and sleep, and sleep. She didn't care what happened afterward. Then she remembered that Macbeth had shown up and had rescued her last night. Or had it all been a dream? Before she could ponder it much more, the door to the bedroom opened and a matronly woman noisily entered the room with a breakfast tray. The sound of her keys and silverware on the tray jangling merrily. The smell of food made Christine's stomach rumble. She hadn't realized how hungry she was until that moment. "Ah, good morning, miss. Good to see you ‘waken up! I brought you your

The Demon Hunter Chapter One Black Hills, South Dakota Everyone she loved was gone; either lost in the midst of space and time or dead. Though the flames of the Phoenix Gate danced around her, all she felt was the heavy and chilly feeling of loneliness seeping through the hole in her heart. As the flames of the Phoenix Gate dispersed she fell to her knees and collapsed, utterly defeated. At the moment, she didn’t care where the Gate had taken her; she was numb. Nothing matters anymore. She told herself. Nothing matters. Nothing matters. One battle after another; that was all that her life was. First the Nightmares, then Flint and her sister, then the Scots and the English. Fight, after fight, after fight; and where had they led? Only places of more loss and destruction. Nothing matters. Nothing matters. Christine lamented. In the back of her mind, she heard a still small voice nudging her onward. “Get up dear one. This journey of yours is not over. Rise and face your destiny.”

A Wind in Manhattan Ch 43
AWIM Ch 43 The Blaze of Light The Eyrie Building Everything and everyone was buzzing the next evening as the Manhattan Clan and the crew of the Centurion gathered supplies for the coming battle. Brooklyn going through his inventory of sunglasses. Not exactly a typical tool one took into battle, but Merlin had told them that he was creating a new set of weapons for them to use. He was in the midst of forging swords and shields that would shine as brightly as the sun to destroy the Nightmares for good. The prospect excited Brooklyn. Neither he nor anyone else in his clan had seen the sun before. He wished with all his heart he could gaze upon it in it's full glory, but Merlin and the other day-dwellers had warned him of its power. "No one can look directly at the sun, Brooklyn." Elisa explained. "You would go blind." "Yeah, I know," he said. He had grown up hearing cautionary tales about the sun since he was a hatchling. Nevertheless, he, like many of the other Gargoyles wished he

Human Again: Angela and Broadway
Currently, Angela David, along with her classmates, was in English class. Their teacher, Ms. Wright, had started them on Shakespeare two weeks ago. The teacher was a major fan, given her enthusiasm for the topic. They'd already read and analyzed "Macbeth." Now they're studying a "Midsummer Night Dream." Ms. Wright assigned different people at random to read for the characters. Right now, Angela was reading for Titania while her boyfriend Bill Rockford read for Oberon. "Ill met by moonlight, proud Titania," read Bill before his girlfriend replied. "What, jealous Oberon! Fairies, skip hence: I have forsworn his bed and company." Life in the asphalt jungle wasn't all that glorious. But, mainly since the 'jungle' was made of asphalt, plenty of children would've rather been in an authentic rainforest. Complete with an abundance of lush exotic flora, graceful jaguars, multicolored parrots, and ancient temples. However, going to that type of jungle wasn't possible. At least for Vixen David, who envied her big sister, Angela, for going on a class trip to Guatemala for Spring Break. Only fourteen or older were permitted on the school's vacation. There remained an eight-year age gap between the sisters. Consequently, while Angela was fifteen, her younger sister was only seven. Angela had promised to record the entire trip on her smartphone. However, it just wasn't the same as being there. The nearest Vixen got to a 'jungle' was the rooftop garden of her building. Her oldest sister Toni had chosen to keep Vixen company for Spring Break. Therefore Toni was babysitting her youngest sister while their parents were
